MADISON, Wis. -

A nearby fisherman pulled a man out of Lake Mendota into his boat Monday night, according to a release from the Madison Fire Department.

Just after 7 p.m. crews responded to Babcock Drive and the lake for a report of a man yelling for help in the water, officials said.

When crews arrived they found that a passing fisherman had helped the man out of the water and dropped him off on a dock, according to the release.

Police determined the man was intoxicated. He had planned to swim across the lake, but when he reached a buoy he realized he couldn't make it, officials said.

Paramedics assessed the man and found he did not need medical attention, officials said. UW police transported him to detox.
