MIDDLETON, Wis. -

Middleton Mayor Kurt Sonnentag has declared a state of emergency for the city due to flood concerns, according to a release.

The state of emergency allows the city to provide sand and sandbags to residents dealing with the high water levels along Lake Mendota, according to the release.

City officials said the Tenney Park dam measurements put Lake Mendota just shy of a 100-year flood elevation by a little more than a foot and other ponds in the area are being pumped to prevent flooding.

According to the release, Babcock Dam on Lake Waubesa is fully open and has been all summer.

Officials said the degree and timing of potential flooding will depend on when more rain comes as well as the rate at which it comes.

Several trails and paths were recently closed due to flooding and will be reopened when safe, according to the release.

Officials said trails should be opened by the weekend barring any additional storm events.

Officials said if anyone wants a sandbag levee to call 608-827-1080.
