MIDDLETON, Wis. -

Middleton High School officials said they have launched an investigation covering alleged cheating during an advanced placement calculus exam.

According to Middleton Cross Plains Area School District Spokesperson Perry Hibner, approximately 250 students took the exam at Middleton High School Dec. 10 and 11.

That following day, MCPASD received four separate letters alleging cheating prompting the school district to launch the investigation.

In a letter sent home to parents, school officials said they had received several letters from students and parents providing information about possible cheating. The letter said if students are found guilty of cheating they could face suspension.

"At this point, we don't have any concrete evidence of students who have cheated," Hibner said." However, there was enough specific information in the letters implying that students had taken pictures of the exams with their phones or had used their calculators to program answers in and had maybe taken a copy or two out of the classroom."

He added it's unclear how many students were involved. Students were told to leave their phones in a box before taking the test and the district is reminding staff to be more vigilant about making it harder for students to cheat.

The students have since retaken the exam.
