McDonald's has over 10 million pounds of frozen chicken wings it needs to get rid of due to a failed promotion.

A huge stockpile of unsold Mighty Wings left over from the new product's promotion are now sitting in frozen storage, reports The Wall Street Journal. The fast food giant originally ordered 50 million pounds of wings to launch the spicy, bone-in chicken wings but still have about 20 percent left because the item was not popular enough with McDonald's customers.

Potential reasons for the failure are the price, the spice (CEO Don Thompson reportedly stated that the wings were too spicy for many customers) or the fact that they look too similar to the already popular chicken nuggets.

McDonald's is currently working on a plan to get rid of the excess wings.
