A South Carolina man was arrested after police said he tried to pay for his Applebee's meal with a $1 trillion bill.

Michael Williams, 53, originally tried to pay the bill with his debit card, but offered up the funny money after his card was declined, Columbia TV station WIS reported.

Employees at the Applebee's in Sumter became suspicious and called police.

Turns out, it was a novelty bill with no monetary value.

Williams was arrested on an unrelated charge of contempt of magistrate's court.

He was later charged with petty larceny and sentenced to time already served, according to public records.
