Madison man gets 10 years on cocaine charge

A 29-year-old man was sentenced by a U.S. district judge to 10 years in prison for possessing cocaine with intent to distribute.

According to a release from the Attorney General's Office, Luis Gonzalez-Lopez plead guilty to to the charge on April 23. 

Gonzalez-Lopez and another man contacted a police informant in Illinois seeking to purchase cocaine and marijuana. When they arrived to purchase the drugs in Beloit, they were surrounded by police and arrested, according to the release.

The conviction is Gonzalez-Lopez's fifth drug-related conviction and his eighth felony as an adult. 

Gonzalez-Lopez is currently serving another sentence in a Wisconsin state prison until 2018. According to the release, the new sentence won't go into effect until after his current sentence ends in 2018. That order delays his release date until 2028.
