A Madison man will spend 12 and one half years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing cocaine with intent to distribute it, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Marcus Johnson, 26, along with others, was involved in a violent armed home invasion in Madison in May 2012. A neighbor provided police with the license plate of the vehicle involved in the robbery.

Fitchburg police were also looking for Johnson shortly after the home invasion because of a pistol whipping at a Fitchburg bar. Johnson arrived at an apartment complex in his girlfriend’s van along with two other men, according to police.

Prosecutors said they found 16 bags of cocaine in Johnson’s pocket.

Judge Barbara Crabb said the community needs to be protected from Johsnon. He has prior felony convictions for battery by prisoner and substantial battery.

While waiting for sentencing in this case, Johnson was charged in Dane County Court with battery by prisoner.

Judge Crabb ordered Johnson's sentence to run consecutively to any sentence he receives in that case as well as any sentences he receives in other pending cases.
