Girl who shaved head for pal back in school

A Colorado girl kicked out of school for shaving her head to support her friend with cancer has been allowed to return.

Caprock Academy told Kamryn Renfro's mother on Monday that her daughter could no longer attend classes at the Grand Junction charter school because her shaved head violated school dress policy, Denver TV station KUSA reported.

Kamryn shorn her locks to support her 11-year-old friend, Delaney Clements, who is battling neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer.

The school's decision drew national attention. School officials received many phone calls from people who were outraged, according to USA Today.

The school board held a special meeting Tuesday and decided an exemption should be made to its policy.

"Our lesson is that we want to be both aware of our immediate and large community. We want to do service as to how important we feel the interest of children is," Caprock board member Catherine Norton Breman told KUSA.
