MADISON, Wis. -

A Deerfield man was sentenced to nine months of confinement concurrent with three years of probation after emotional pleas from the family of a woman killed in a crash last year.

A Dane County judge stayed 3 1/3 years of prison time for Jesse A. Bergeron, 35, if he meets all the conditions of his probation.

Bergeron was convicted of driving with a suspended license causing death and driving with a suspended license causing great bodily harm.

Kim M. Sylvia, 47, of Marshall, was killed in a June 17, 2012, crash on state Highway 19 near Sun Prairie. Sylvia was a passenger on a motorcycle that was struck when a car pulled out in front of it at Town Hall Road.

The driver of the motorcycle suffered neck and arm fractures in the crash. Joe Blaschka and Sylvia's daughters and mother made an emotional plea to the judge for a full sentence.

Bergeron faced up to six years of combined prison and extended supervision on the charge of causing death and up to 3 1/2 years for causing great bodily harm.

Safety at the intersection is being reassessed.
