MADISON, Wis. -

A new proposal by Dane County leaders aims to make criminals pay for crime prevention efforts.

Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne outlined plans Thursday to impose a $20 surcharge on criminals for each of their convictions.

The money will go to future crime prevention efforts.

The Dane County board is expected to approve the plan later this summer. The plan could bring in at least $60,000 dollars for crime prevention efforts.
