A dad in India has been jailed for letting his 9-year-old son drive his Ferrari as a birthday treat.

Mohammed Nisham's wife, Amal Nisham, filmed their son driving the Ferrari F430 -- his 5-year-old brother in the passenger seat. The footage went viral on YouTube, sparking outrage across India and leading to the father's arrest.

He's been charged with endangering the life of a child and allowing a minor to drive, Inspector M.V. Verghese in Kerala state told The Associated Press.

The boy has also driven the family's Bentley and Lamborghini, according to the Times of India.

His mother told NDTV.com she was proud of her "talented son's achievement" at such a young age.

"It was his ninth birthday, and since he was insisting for months, we allowed him to drive the Ferrari," Amal Nisham said. "He is a cautious and confident driver. I am proud of him."
