MADISON, Wis. -

Great Lakes Corporation donated nearly 50,000 snacks to Black Hawk Middle School Thursday as part of Madison’s adopt-a-school program.

The company’s original goal was to collect 5,000 snacks, but they outdid themselves. Now there are enough snacks for 300 students for the rest of the year.

Black Hawk Middle School Principal Sean Storche said the food will fuel students' brain power.

“They’re looking forward to not having to worry about what they’re going to eat between breakfast and lunch, and they’re looking forward to staying focused on learning,” Storche said.

Black Hawk received so many snacks it was able to donate 10,000 of them to nearby Sherman Middle School.

Great Lakes Company said its next project is a book drive for the school.
