Published On: Dec 03 2013 04:09:05 PM CST

MADISON, Wis. -

A clerk scared away a would-be robber Friday afternoon when he told the robber he would give him money if he showed his gun, officials said.

The robber kept a hand in his pocket while demanding money from a clerk at the PLS Loan Store at 2717 E. Washington Ave. around 3 p.m., according to a release.

When the clerk said he would give the robber money if he showed his gun, the robber did not show a weapon, got nervous and fled, officials said.

The robber is described as a black man in his early 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall with a slender build. He was wearing a dark colored coat with a checkered pattern on it and a blue hat with a symbol on the front.
