Burglar escapes through window

Published On: Sep 12 2013 11:21:01 AM CDT

MADISON, Wis. -

A burglar fled through a window when he was spotted by a 27-year-old man living in a home in the 100 block of North Butler Street, according to Madison police.

The victim told police he woke early Wednesday morning to noises coming from his roommate’s room. He said he knew his roommate was gone so he opened the door to his roommate’s room and found the intruder.

The burglar quickly jumped through a window and fled. Police said the burglar didn’t have time to steal anything.

Police found a cinder block outside below the window and found the screen had been removed.

The burglar is described as white, in his 20s, bald, blue or green eyes, an average build and a possible facial deformity. He was wearing a gray hooded-sweatshirt with a design on the front, blue jeans and a blue baseball-style cap worn backwards.

MADISON, Wis.--A west Madison store is part of an effort to collect hundreds of stuffed animals to donate to six police departments in Southern Wisconsin.

Todd Merryfield, owner of The Learning Shop at 714 S. Gammon Road, said the store is collecting the bears for officers who use them to help comfort children with whom police come in contact.

"This is a great way to support what (police) do," Merryfield said. "Those are the kids that need something like this to reassure them, calm them down, and let them know that things are all right."

Nearly 500 plush animals were donated Tuesday, a Learning Shop spokeswoman said. The Madison store's effort is part of a larger initiative through the Bears for Humanity organization.
