JUNEAU, Wis. -

A Beaver Dam man was sentenced in connection to more than 50 burglaries Thursday, according to a release.

Donny J. Lafferty, 21, was sentenced to five years in the Wisconsin State Prison and five years of extended supervision for his role in the string of thefts, officials said. He was also placed on five years of probation on a second charge where the sentence was withheld.

Lafferty was found guilty of two counts of burglary, according to a release. Officials believe he was also responsible for additional burglaries and thefts, but had no direct evidence to prove the allegations.

Dodge County officials offered Lafferty immunity from prosecution for the additional crimes in exchange for him admitting to committing the crimes and agreeing to pay restitution for the uncharged crimes, according to a release. Lafferty then admitted to 38 more burglaries resulting in over $55,000 in restitution.

Lafferty was taken into custody after a more than year-long investigation in February, officials said.

Investigators said Lafferty’s motive was likely his addiction to opiate type drugs.

Dodge County Sheriff Patricia Ninmann congratulated those involved in the case and its successful resolution.

“This case spanned over several jurisdictions and shows the effectiveness of law enforcement working together, sharing information and the great results that come from that cooperation,” Ninmann said in the release.
