MADISON, Wis. -

Police said one of two suspected burglars was arrested Thursday after a UW-Madison student’s home was robbed.

Christopher Mason, 31, of Madison, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, a felon in possession of a firearm and a probation hold.

According to the report, a 22-year-old man told police just before 8 p.m., he woke up on his couch to find two strangers -- one of them Mason -- in his downtown house on the 400 block of West Doty Street.

Police said Mason and the other man told the student they were looking for “Chris;” the student told the trespassers to leave.  The student called police, who were able to locate Mason alongside a nearby building.

Mason told the officer he was at the apartment to watch the men's Badger basketball game at his friend Chad’s house, who he thought lived at the student’s home, according to the report. Police said Mason told them he and his accomplice had intended to get drunk and have physical relationships with unknown women that evening. The officer told Mason there was no basketball game that night and the game had already taken place Wednesday.

Police said they found the student victim’s wallet near the suspect and a loaded handgun in the backpack Mason was wearing.

The second suspect remains at large and the stolen laptop have not been found, police added.
