MONROE, Wis. -

A bus transporting 16 children and a teacher’s aide was involved in a traffic crash in Monroe Thursday, according to police.

Officers were called to the intersection of 20th Street and 12th Avenue on Monroe’s south side at 8:13 a.m. for a report of a two-vehicle crash.

The Head Start bus was westbound on 20th Street when the collision occurred at an uncontrolled intersection, causing moderate to severe damage to both vehicles, according to police.

Four children, ages 7, 10, 11 and 14, were checked for injuries at the scene and no one was transported for treatment.

The bus is owned by the Dane County Parent Council and was being driven by a 57-year-old woman from Gratiot.

No citations were issued at the scene but the crash remains under investigation.
