Quilt made of soldier's uniforms stolen from widow

DAVENPORT, Fla. -

Central Florida authorities say a quilt made from the uniforms and mementos of a soldier killed in Afghanistan was stolen from his widow's front porch.

Brittany Frazier tells WFTV in Orlando that she didn't know what to do with her husband's uniforms after his death in 2009. They were married just seven months. Earlier this year, she sent the uniforms and some of Daniel Frazier's belongings to Wisconsin quilt-maker Lucy Salerno.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, a package from Salerno containing the finished quilt was delivered July 15 to Frazier's home in Davenport. However, it was stolen before Frazier could collect it.

Sheriff Grady Judd says deputies and K-9s have canvased the neighborhood for the quilt, which may have been discarded.

MADISON, Wis.--A west Madison store is part of an effort to collect hundreds of stuffed animals to donate to six police departments in Southern Wisconsin.

Todd Merryfield, owner of The Learning Shop at 714 S. Gammon Road, said the store is collecting the bears for officers who use them to help comfort children with whom police come in contact.

"This is a great way to support what (police) do," Merryfield said. "Those are the kids that need something like this to reassure them, calm them down, and let them know that things are all right."

Nearly 500 plush animals were donated Tuesday, a Learning Shop spokeswoman said. The Madison store's effort is part of a larger initiative through the Bears for Humanity organization.
