MADISON, Wis. -

A man protesting state government leaders at Concerts on the Square on Wednesday is facing charges after he wouldn't stop yelling profanities and struggled with officers, Madison police said.

The incident happened at 5:30 p.m. before the start of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra's outdoor concert on the Capitol Square.

Police said William Gruber, 47, of Madison, was yelling profanities about state government leaders and Nazis, and when police asked him to stop being disruptive, he began to weave in and around families that were seated on their blankets and preparing for the concert to begin.

Officers finally caught Gruber, as he continued to yell, "These cops are trying to arrest me and I have pot in my pocket," and he struggled with officers as they attempted to take him into custody, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

Police said they used a Taser gun to bring Gruber under control, then handcuffed him and took him into custody.

Gruber again used profanity to describe how he felt about being shocked with the Taser, but he was conveyed to the jail just before the concert started, police said.

Police said officers were able to confirm that Gruber was in possession of marijuana.

Madison police said Gruber was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting an officer and possession of marijuana.
