Police: Woman found safe after domestic incident

Published On: Dec 05 2012 03:41:08 PM CST
WAUKESHA, Wis. -

Waukesha police said a missing woman has been found safe after a domestic violence incident that led to a standoff.

Police found the woman at a relative's house in Pewaukee on Wednesday. She was unhurt and in good condition.

Apparently the woman had left her home Tuesday night before officers arrived because she felt threatened.

Police were called to the home in Waukesha about 6:20 a.m. Wednesday. Officers knew the owner of the home had firearms and had previously threatened to shoot police.

No one responded when officers went to the front door and tried calling the house. Tactical officers and an armored vehicle were sent to the scene.

The suspect turned himself in to officers about four hours later. Officials said he has not cooperated with investigators.

MADISON, Wis.--A west Madison store is part of an effort to collect hundreds of stuffed animals to donate to six police departments in Southern Wisconsin.

Todd Merryfield, owner of The Learning Shop at 714 S. Gammon Road, said the store is collecting the bears for officers who use them to help comfort children with whom police come in contact.

"This is a great way to support what (police) do," Merryfield said. "Those are the kids that need something like this to reassure them, calm them down, and let them know that things are all right."

Nearly 500 plush animals were donated Tuesday, a Learning Shop spokeswoman said. The Madison store's effort is part of a larger initiative through the Bears for Humanity organization.
