MADISON, Wis. -

One of two men suspected of stealing more than $1,500 worth of clothing attacked two Boston Store security officers at West Towne Mall, according to police.

Police said Darriell L. Banks, 21, of Madison and another suspect were pursued by two security guards Wednesday evening at about 6 p.m. One man, a 26-year-old, dropped the merchandise and fled while security officers chased Banks, police said.

The security officers, ages 18 and 30, said Banks punched one of them in the face and grabbed the other by the throat in the parking lot before the man was held down until police arrived.

One of the employees suffered a black and blue lip and the other was finding it hard to swallow.

Banks was arrested on suspicion of strangulation, battery and retail theft.

The other man remains at large.
