A Madison man was sentenced to nearly three years in prison followed by a period of supervised release for possessing a weapon as a convicted felon.

According to a statement by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Alvin Torry, 32, has been convicted twice of unlawfully possession a firearm as a felon. Torry pleaded guilty to the latest charge in January 2012 after serving 33 months in prison beginning in 2006. He will again serve 33 months in prison and a three-year period of supervision upon his release.

The conviction and sentencing come after a Fitchburg police officer pulled Torry over for speeding at 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 2, 2012. Torry was also intoxicated and had a loaded 9mm pistol, according to the statement.

The statement said charges against Tory were a result of an investigation by the Fitchburg Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
