Local fliers consider sequester impact on airport lines

Published On: Feb 25 2013 08:06:58 PM CST
MADISON, Wis. -

A national sequester threatening deep cuts to domestic and defense spending would also have consequences for frequent fliers.

White House officials said the Transportation Security Agency would be forced to reduce its security workforce, including more furlough days and a hiring freeze set to take effect in March. The cutbacks could translate into longer lines at airport security across the nation.

While it is not entirely sure how or if the cuts would affect the Dane County Airport, fliers are starting to bite their nails over the issue.

“I’d probably have to add another hour on, and maybe adjust my schedules completely,” flier Michael Dobrient said of the possible delays.

Dane County Airport spokesperson Brent McHenry said the airport will conduct business as usual and is not planning on any changes in operation at the time.
