MADISON, Wis. -

State inspectors have again accused Kraft Foods Group of selling short-weight products in Wisconsin stores.

Regulators said nine packages of Kraft's Oscar Mayer ham falsely represented the quantity stamped on the label. Short-weight packages were found in Beloit, Dodgeville, Plover, Racine, Watertown, Waukesha and Wisconsin Rapids.

It's the Northfield, Ill., company's third alleged violation of Wisconsin's weights and measures statutes in the past two years. Kraft Foods does not admit any wrongdoing, but agree to pay the nearly $14,000 civil forfeiture.

"It was the third time we found violations in two years. That's fairly unusual. We have a compliance rate on packages of 97.3 percent overall, so to see so many violations coming from one company was significant," said Sandy Chalmers, divisions administrator of Trade and Consumer Protection.

Oscar Mayer agreed to integrate weight scales at the assembly point in all production lines at an estimated cost of $10 million.

A Kraft Foods Group representative in Madison released a statement, saying, "Quality is very important to our company. That includes product weight. Oscar Mayer produces several hundred million packages a year and we work to ensure the correct amount of food is placed in each and every one."
