A 15-year-old girl is fighting the country of Iceland for the right to use the name given to her by her mother at birth. Iceland has official rules about what a baby can be named and "Blaer" is not on the Personal Names Register, a list of names that fit Icelandic grammar and pronunciation rules, the Associated Press reports.

Blaer's mother was permitted to name her that due to a mistake; the priest who baptized her later admitted he had mistakenly allowed it.

A lawsuit filed by Blaer and her mother marks the first time someone has challenged a names committee decision in court. The suit aims to bring attention to the problem as well as change the strict laws revolving around names. "It seems like a basic human right to be able to name your child what you want, especially if it doesn't harm your child in any way," said Blaer's mother.
