Dems want deeper look into school shootings

Published On: Dec 18 2012 06:41:35 AM CST

MADISON, Wis. -

State Assembly Democrats are calling for a deeper look into what has caused a spate of mass shootings around the country, including two in the last five months in Wisconsin.

Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca, a Kenosha Democrat, said the time for action has come after Adam Lanza killed 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday. The shooting comes after attacks at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek in August and a Brookfield spa in October.

Barca said he plans to talk to Republican Governor Scott Walker on Tuesday about setting up a bipartisan commission to examine mass shootings.

Representative Fred Kessler, a Milwaukee Democrat, meanwhile said he's working on several bills to address mental health, ammunition and assault weapons.
