Officials in Sweden are investigating how a cleaning lady was able to steal a commuter train that later derailed and smashed into a house in a suburb of Stockholm.

The train was empty at the time, and no one in the home was injured, Swedish newspaper The Local reported.

That despite the timing of the crash -- around 3 a.m. Tuesday -- and the fact that five residents of the three apartments in the building were home sleeping at the time, the Expressen newspaper reported.

The woman, who is in her 20s, was trapped in the wreckage for two hours and flown to a Stockholm hospital with serious injuries, according to The Associated Press.

She's been arrested on suspicion of endangering the public.

Transit authorities aren't sure how the woman got the keys for the four-car train, but said she drove it about a mile to the line's end station before it derailed, careened about 30 yards and then crashed into the three-story building, the AP reported.

Photos show the crumpled train's front end buried deep in the structure, snow falling all around.
