ROTHSCHILD, Wis. -

A $250 million biomass plant in central Wisconsin is on track to begin generating power late this year.

Construction of Domtar's Rothschild plant began in August of 2011. When the plant is up and running, about 60 percent of the steam generated by wood waste will create electricity for We Energies. The remaining steam will be used at Domtar's local mill.

A daily parade of 50 to 75 semis will keep the plant's boilers stoked with treetops and branches to create steam and electricity. The wood debris will come from forests within a 75-mile radius of the plant.

Rick Graap owns a logging company in Merrill and hopes to have a contract as a supplier. The Stevens Point Journal says Graap has already stockpiled about 25,000 tons of tree tops and branches.
