MADISON, Wis. -

A dispute between two teenagers escalated into what police described as a melee at Elver Park in Madison Wednesday.

Police said two girls, ages 14 and 16, were involved in a dispute that included the trading of insults on Facebook. The girls arranged to meet at the park at 3:30 p.m. and each brought friends and family.

Witnesses told police family members tried to stave off violence between the girls at the park but some of the adults got into a dispute with each other. One mother got a small baseball bat and used it to strike others, a 16-year-old boy used an orange snow marker stick as a weapon and punches were thrown between those involved, according to police.

The first officers at the scene said they saw 20-25 people fighting in the parking lot.

There were no serious injuries. Police said one woman had a bump on her forehead from being struck by a bat.

The feuding girls were not arrested, but policed arrested four of the people involved in the fight.

Temika D. Burch, 34 of Madison was arrested on suspicion of battery. Conchessa P. Brooks, 36, of Madison was arrested on suspicion of battery. Wilbur D. Brooks, 32, was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct. A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of battery, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.
