Madison police said three men leaving a bar early Tuesday morning got into a dispute that turned physical, resulting in a stabbing.
The fight began while the men were walking on Lafollette Avenue near Talmadge Street at about 2:30 a.m.
According to the report, at least two got into a physical fight. One took a blow to the head; the other was stabbed in the back with a small knife, police said.
The 50-year-old man who was stabbed was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The person with whom he was fighting, a 22-year old Madison man, told police that he was hit over the head with a brick or rock and he pulled the knife after being struck.
According to the report, punches were thrown by one or more of the men.
Police said that in addition to head injuries, the 22 year old also had cut fingers; the third man, a 35-year-old Madison man, was not injured.
Police said the men left the bar with the intent to continue socializing. Individual accounts from each of the three men on what caused the fight were not consistent, police said.
