225,000 absentee ballots reportedly issued in Wis.

MADISON, Wis. -

Wisconsin election officials reported more than 225,000 state residents have requested absentee ballots for the Nov. 6 election.

The Government Accountability Board said Friday about 125,000 were issued by mail, and another 100,000 were issued in clerks' offices.

Board director Kevin Kennedy says he expects about 20 percent of votes to be cast absentee this year, the same as in 2008.

Voters can cast in-person absentee ballots in a municipal clerk's office through Nov. 2.

GAB administrator Nat Robinson reminds voters that if they vote in a clerk's office, their ballot won't be put into a tabulating machine or a ballot box. He says those ballots must be sealed in envelopes and sent to the proper polling place to be counted there on Election Day.
