2 hit, killed by train in Mauston identified

MAUSTON, Wis. -

Police said two people were struck by a train in Mauston early Saturday and are dead.

The Mauston Police Department said in a news release that the Juneau County Sheriff's Office was notified by the Canadian Pacific railroad that a train had struck two individuals who were standing on the railroad tracks at about 12:03 a.m.

The two people were identified Monday as Jessica L. McQuiston, 19, of rural Mauston, and Thomas G. Kratz, Jr., 19, of rural Wisconsin Dells.

The incident is being investigated as a double suicide.

The Juneau County Coroner's Office, Mauston police and the Canadian Pacific police are investigating, according to the report.
