A record number of people logged online to track jolly old Saint Nick's Christmas Eve flight around the globe in 2013, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

The NORAD Tracks Santa website logged 19.58 unique visitors from 234 different countries and territories during the 23 hours on Christmas Eve that Santa's flight is tracked, according to NORAD.

On top of all those web views, 1,200 volunteer operators answered 117,371 calls and 9,606 emails from people trying to find out where Santa was.

NORAD started tracking Santa's Christmas Eve flight in 1955, when an ad that was supposed to direct people to call a department store's phone number to track Kriss Kringle's progress included a misprint that instead directed folks to call a NORAD line.

Tracking options have become decidedly more high-tech since 1955 -- in addition to the phone line, online tracker and email options, people can follow Santa's progress on Twitter (which 146,307 did this year) or calling OnStar operators (which 800 subscribers did this year). Also, the NORAD Santa Tracker Facebook page earned 1.45 million "likes," and the operation's Google Plus page had 41,676 fans this year.
