MPD, community group team up to build relationships with young adults
Law enforcement officers and a local community group are teaming up to improve relationships with the area’s young adults.
Today Not Tomorrow and the Madison Police Department plan to use social media and other tools to educate Madison’s 16- to 29-year-olds on their rights and responsibilities.
Interim Police Chief Randy Gaber said the program will increase communication and open doors.
“I’m not just an officer anymore, I’m Randy. You’re just not an officer anymore, you’re not just someone who lives in the neighborhood, you get to a first-name basis, and once those relationships are established, we see things from each other's perspective,” Gaber said.
The new partnership is called The Peacemakers. The group plans to target four neighborhoods initially and hopes to expand.
