Motorcycle-deer crash leaves one man in critical condition

TOWN OF MIDDLETON, Wis. -

A crash between a motorcycle and a deer late Sunday night has left a Middleton man in critical condition, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Department.

The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 14, just east of Willow Road in the Town of Middleton.

According to sheriff's department, a motorcycle ridden by David Howes, 48, of Middleton was going westbound when it hit the deer. Howes, the lone occupant of the motorcycle lost control of the bike and crashed, according to the sheriff's department. Deputies said Howes was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Howes was taken to UW Hospital and admitted with critical injuries. Deputies also charged him with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated - fourth offense after their investigation indicated Howes had been drinking before the crash.
