MILWAUKEE -

The remains of Lance Cpl. Jeremiah Collins returned to Milwaukee, his hometown, Wednesday.

Collins died earlier this month in the Helmond Province in Afghanistan. He was serving with a unit from Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

Members of the Patriot Guard stood watch as his body was lifted into a hearse at Mitchel Field, and was then taken by motorcade through downtown Milwaukee.

Collins became a nationally known name when the government shutdown delayed the payment of survival benefits and burial expenses to his family.

He will be laid to rest this weekend in Milwaukee.
