LA CROSSE, Wis. -

La Crosse elementary school students will have to do without their morning milk break.

The school district is canceling the break that offered milk or juice to students. It was at no cost to children on the free or reduced meal program.

School officials said funding for the program has declined over recent years and it isn't feasible to continue the program next school year. School nutritionist Angela Seeger told WKBT-TV they are encouraging parents who want their children to have that cup of milk to take advantage of the school breakfast and lunch programs.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has a Special Milk Program that provides milk to children in schools, child care institutions and eligible camps that do not participate in other federal child nutrition meal service programs.
