MIDDLETON, Wis. -

Police searching a local high school after a report of a bomb threat Friday morning found no evidence of danger, a school official said.

Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District spokesman Perry Hibner said police responded to Middleton High School and students were evacuated to Breitenbach Stadium behind the school at 11:22 a.m. Students were dismissed for the day 20 minutes later. Police needed time to search the building and the weather was too cold to keep kids outdoors, Hibner said.

At 1:30 p.m., police gave the all-clear that nothing was found inside the school, Hibner said.

The written bomb threat was found in a third-floor girls' bathroom by a student who reported it to an MHS staff member, Hibner said.

Two hours before students were evacuated for the threat, the high school had a drill to practice evacuations, Hibner added.

Emergency notifications were sent to parents of Middleton High School students at 11:30 a.m.

"It's a very efficient system," Hibner said. "We found that it gets out calls to everybody within 60 to 90 seconds."

Hibner said the school doesn't know who wrote the threat but it's investigating. The school hasn't had a threat for more than a year, the spokesman added.

There are about 2,000 students enrolled at Middleton High School.
