Michigan stops Badger women, 60-40

The Wisconsin women’s basketball team had its lowest point total of the season in a 60-44 loss to Michigan at the Kohl Center Sunday afternoon.

The Wolverines (14-6 overall, 5-2 Big Ten) jumped out to an early 15-6 lead, but Wisconsin (9-10, 2-5) stayed within striking distance led by seven points each from Michala Johnson and Nicole Bauman.

Bauman scored the final basket of the half to bring UW within five, 27-22, heading into the break.

 Wisconsin came out of the half on a 9-2 run to take a 31-29 lead over Michigan at the 17:13 mark. The Badgers and Wolverines exchanged leads until a 10-0 run gave Michigan a 43-35 advantage with 10 minutes remaining.

The Badgers chipped away at the Wolverine’s lead, getting within four (45-41) on a three-point play by Johnson with just under eight minutes to go.

Michigan extended its lead to 11 twice, before running away with a 16-point victory.

For the third-consecutive game, the Badgers had just two players score in double-figures, with Johnson posting a game-high 15 and Bauman netting a season-high 13.

Michigan was led by Siera Thompson’s 13 points and Shannon Smith’s 12.
