MADISON, Wis. -

A Madison Metro bus was struck by gunshots Sunday night and witnesses helped officers make an arrest, according to Madison police.

Officers said the bus was struck in the 2300 block of Allied Drive at 9:45 p.m. A mother and her 2-year-old child sat in a seat next to one of the windows that was struck.

Two windows had a small hole with a spider web pattern of cracks rippling from the hole, according to police.

Witness statements led police to 20-year-old Marlon D. Thompson, of Madison, in a nearby apartment. A pellet gun was found underneath a couch cushion, according to officers.

Thompson was cited on suspicion of criminal damage to property and discharging a firearm in city limits.
