McDonnell Central ends Ithaca's baseball season

McDonnell Central took advantage of a Division Four record-tying seven Ithaca errors to take a 14-4 decision in the semifinals at the WIAA State Baseball tournament Wednesday afternoon.

McDonnell Central took advantage of a Division Four record-tying seven Ithaca errors to take a 14-4 decision in the semifinals at the WIAA State Baseball tournament Wednesday afternoon.

McDonnell scored four runs in the top of the first inning, but Ithaca answered with four of their own as Caleb Olson drove in two with a single and Jacob Huebsch and Ross Ghastin also had run scoring hits.

But The Macks scored five runs in the third inning and three more in the fifth to open the lead and Ithaca couldn't score the rest of the game.

Ithaca starting pitcher James Oelke, one of only two seniors on the team, pitched three innings allowing nine hits and nine runs, seven of which were earned. Oelke walked one and struck out four.

The Bulldogs were the first Ithaca team to play in a WIAA state baseball tournament. THey ended the season with a 17-6 record.
