March Hockey Madness: Men's hockey top seed in Midwest Regional

The Badger men's hockey team is in the NCAA tournament for the 25th overall time. They face North Dakota Friday in Cincinnati.

Madison, Wis. -

Not to be lost in all the Wisconsin men's basketball team's Sweet 16 hype, the Wisconsin men's hockey team is one of the four No. 1 seeds in the men's hockey tournament.

They play Friday in Cincinnati in the Midwest regional.  The Badgers practiced at 8 a.m. Tuesday and they will practice Wednesday afternoon before leaving for Cincinnati.

The Badgers will face old WCHA conference foe in North Dakota. The Badgers lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament last year and they hope to learn from that when taking on a rival.

"Just knowing from that experience and that loss that is something we will bring into this week knowing that you can't let off the gas for one second in the game or it can get away from you pretty quick," said UW junior goalie Joel Rumpel.

"It's great I wouldn't want it any other way they have been a rival for the WCHA the whole time since I have been here. We didn't get them this year so it's only right to get a good shot at them in the playoffs and let the chips fall where they may," said UW senior forward Tyler Barnes.

Friday's game is on ESPNU at 7p.m.
