TOWN OF MADISON, Wis. -

Police said a man accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old in 2002 was arrested Wednesday in Texas and will be extradited to Wisconsin to face charges.

The Town of Madison Police Chief Scott Gregory said in a news release Friday that a 13-year-old girl reported to police on April 9, 2002, that Manuel Alberto-Camposeco had sexually assaulted her.

Police said Camposeco was arrested and charged but the charges were dismissed when the victim didn't show up for court and the district attorney's office learned the girl was in Mexico.

On April 16, 2013, police said the victim came to the department to tell police she had been put on a bus alone to Mexico in 2002 so that she could not testify against Camposeco.

Police re-opened the case and arrested Camposeco, now 40 years old, on Oct. 7, 2013 on suspicion of repeated sexual assault of a child.

Police said Camposeco bailed out of Dane County Jail on Oct. 21, sold his house and never returned to work. A bench warrant was issued for Camposeco Nov. 5 after he missed court hearings.

Gregory said law enforcement began searching for Camposeco in Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas and Minnesota.

Wire transfer data led a town of Madison police detective to an address in Austin, Texas, according to the report. A Texas police task force began surveillance on the house and arrested Camposeco before 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police said Camposeco was taken to Travis County Jail in Texas on the bench warrant and is awaiting extradition.

"A sexual assault victim may finally see her day in court 12 years of the crime was committed," Gregory said in the news release.
