Mallards can't clinch Tuesday

Published On: Jul 02 2013 10:15:45 PM CDT

La Crosse's Michael Katz hit a run-scoring double in the bottom of the ninth as the Loggers defeated the Madison Mallards, 6-5 Tuesday night.

A win would have given the Mallards the first half championship of the South Division of the Northwoods League.

Madison got a couple of big offensive nights from John LaPrise and Luke Meeter. LaPrise went five for five while Meeteer continued his hot hitting over the last week going two for four with an RBI.

The game was tied 5-5 going into the bottom of the ninth when Mallards closer Hunter May walked the Loggers' Kevin Zak. Katz then hit an 0-2 pitch for the game winning hit.

The Mallards and Loggers close out the first half of the season Wednesday night in LaCrosse - a Mallards win clinches the title.
