Major traffic switch comes to Verona Road project

A new traffic pattern will be a major change for drivers and will signal the second half of this year's Verona Road project.
At 8 p.m. on Wednesday, traffic will be shifted from the southbound lanes to the newly completed northbound lanes between the Beltline and Raymond Road.
“Wednesday night's a big night. Starting at 8 p.m. we're going to start working on the traffic switch to work on the other half of the project. That will continue all through the night as the workers will be here moving the traffic signals, paint lines and signing and that will continue until around 10 a.m. Thursday morning,” said John Steiner, project supervisor for the Verona Road project.
The target date for completion of the 0.6-mile stretch of Verona Road is Nov. 15, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is confident that will be met.
"They've been doing a lot of work, working Saturdays, late into the night as much as they can and stuff with daylight so they've been doing a real good job of trying to catch up," Steiner said.
The project was delayed because of inclement weather conditions this spring.
With the traffic pattern switch scheduled for Wednesday night, drivers are encouraged to avoid the area until after the changes have been completed, unless they need to get to a business in the area.
Drivers are also strongly encouraged to slow down when entering the new traffic pattern and follow the signed directions. Safety should be front of mind for drivers with work crews active in the area.
Once this phase of the Verona Road project is completed in November, the second phase, which will focus on the stretch from Raymond Road south to County Road PD, will start in 2017.
