Mahoney announces re-election campaign for Dane County sheriff

MADISON, Wis. -

Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney announced Monday he is seeking re-election in November.

“Working together, we’ve improved public safety, cracked down on drunken driving and eliminated overcrowding in the jail,” Mahoney said in a release. “But there is more to be done. We must find cost-effective ways to adequately and humanely house inmates with mental illness in our jail, and we must continue to work with all partners to combat the ever-increasing, deadly heroin and opiate epidemic.”

Mahoney also said he will continue to focus on implementing improvements to ensure the sheriff’s department is responsibly managing tax dollars and that deputies have the training and skills they need to meet new and growing challenges.

More than 700 residents in communities around Dane County have signed Mahoney’s nomination papers to put his name on the ballot, according to the release.

“It is an honor and privilege to serve Dane County as sheriff, and I look forward to continuing to earn the people’s trust and confidence every day,” Mahoney said.

Mahoney was elected to his second term in 2010.
