Madison-Worthy Transit

In a great many respects Madison is humming right along. Residential construction, new business growth, the development of Central Park and especially the Capitol East District along the East Washington Avenue corridor are all indicators of a vital, thriving city with unlimited potential. And what Madison needs now, and what will best compliment that growth, is a modern, efficient, integrated transit system. And that, thankfully, is in the works.

This, being Madison, won’t be easy. There are competing interests on everything. But next Thursday the Madison South Capitol Planning Committee is holding a public hearing on improved access to Lake Monona from the Square for pedestrians and bicyclists and a location for a new, inter-city bus terminal. Obviously this is just the beginning. We need to be planning, as we are, for a truly integrated system of cars, busses, trains, bikes, people movers and more. But what happens with crossing John Nolen Drive and housing inter-city busses will affect all those other decisions so this is really important. We hope there’s a good turnout and many good ideas.
