Madison's New Central Library
MADISON’S NEW CENTRAL LIBRARY
Most great cities have great libraries. All great cities should. A recent tour of Madison’s soon-to-open, renovated from top to bottom, Central Library suggests Madison is about to join that list.
Our editorial board got a sneak peak at the new library – the first not to require hard hats in fact – and we were impressed. It is bright, well-laid out, wired to the max and above as welcoming as your living room, if your living room had a coffee shop, LED-lit displays, an original Aaron Bohrod fresco and a book, periodical, video, and DVD to fit your every whim. Best of all, this new library is welcoming, simply inviting you to sit, read, have a bite to eat, or have a meeting. This is truly a community space and it’s a terrific addition to our civic, public spaces.
Dane County is rich with branch libraries that serve the community. But a grand, central library is special. Our hats off to the Library Foundation, Madison Community Foundation, generous donors and other contributors for making this happen. It’s a wonderful addition to our city.
