MADISON, Wis. -

WIC officials said Thursday morning that the program in Madison and Dane County is open despite the shutdown of the federal government.

Jeff Golden, a spokesman for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, said the shutdown has not affected local WIC services.

WIC supervisor Lesly Scott said clinic hours on South Park Street and East Washington continue as usual and food vouchers are usable.

"WIC checks are good and we are encouraging clients to spend them," Scott said in a news release.

Anyone with further questions can call 608-267-1111.
