Leslie M. Mork

MONONA-Leslie M. Mork, age 87, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014.

He was born in Iola, on Oct. 27, 1926, the son of Martin and Ovedia (Thoe) Mork. Leslie attended high school in Iola (or Scandinavia) and the UW-Madison Agriculture School. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 during WWII and achieved the rank of Fireman 1st Class. Leslie was united in marriage to Ann Fotes in 1950. He worked for the City of Madison Health Department as a health and restaurant inspector for over 25 years. He was an active member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church where he served on the board of the parish for many years. He was also a member of the Elk’s Lodge, a coach for youth hockey in McFarland, and president of the Blue Line Club for youth hockey.

Leslie’s other interests were fishing the Madison area waters, golfing, and enjoyed being a part of his grandchildren’s lives.

Leslie is survived by his sons, Gary (Pam) Mork of McFarland, Ted (Jeanne) Mork of McFarland, and Jon (Jill) Mork of Madison; six grandchildren, Matt (Amy) Schwarz, Jim (Kris) Schwarz, Bryan (Britta) Mork, Sean (fiancé Amy) Mork, Christian (fiancé Sara) Mork, and Nicole Mork; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Mason Schwarz: his sister, Phyllis Boyce of Milwaukee; and companion Barbara Ashley of Monona. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ann; brothers, Gordon, Ken, Willy, and Roger; his sisters, Eileen and Roseanna.

Funeral services will be held at the ASSUMPTION GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 11 N. 7th Street, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Monday, April 7, 2014, with Father Michael Vanderhoef presiding. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
